Black Kavuni Flakes / Poha கருப்பு கவுனி அவல்

These black rice flakes, popularly known as poha, are made by flattening rice using indigenous methods. These nutty and aromatic flakes are made from Organically grown Kavuni black rice, a traditional variety grown by a group of farmers in Tamil Nadu using sustainable agricultural practices. The presence of anthocyanin, an antioxidant imparts black colour to these rice flakes.

Before preparing, rinse in a colander with water and let it drain. The slightly soaked aval can then be used for preparing breakfast items like poha, porridge and also in salads and sweets. It can also be used for making muesli.
